  Why BPO firm EXL is growing faster & performing better than peers

Last month EXLServices Holdings, a provider of back-office services, clinched a deal to acquire a former KPMG captive and a dedicated provider of finance and accounting services, Outsource Partners International (OPI). The deal will make EXL one of the leading players in the finance and accounting (F&A) segment, the largest category of outsourced services after voice-based services

  Tech Mahindra commences BPO operations in Philippines recruiting 600 associates

IT firm Tech Mahindra today announced that it has started BPO operations at Manila in the Philippines and has recruited 600 associates locally for this new operation. "The Philippines is not only a key market for us, but also a strategic location from where we plan to service our global clients. We look forward to strengthening our presence in the Philippines," Tech Mahindra President - Corporate Affairs and Business Process Outsourcing Sujit Baksi said in a statement

  Nasscom sees strong spurt in tech demand

Technology industry body National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) sees a strong revival of demand that could not only help meet, but even exceed, growth expectations for 2011-12. Newly-appointed Nasscom chairman for 2011-12, Rajendra S Pawar said in an interaction with ET: "We are coming back to growth levels seen prior to the slowdown and in the near term we see lot of headroom to catapult this growth.'' When asked whether this means Nasscom will revise its 15-17 % growth target for the year for the $70 billion technology and business services sector, Pawar said, "it's too early to comment, but we are on track to exceed this target.'' Pawar, 60, co-founder and chairman of education software company, NIIT , took over as Nasscom chairman from Harsh Manglik.

BPO Foundation Program
Overview
The objective of the “BPO Foundation Program” module is to bridge the gap between the candidate’s knowledge and skill level and the requirements of the BPO industry. The program is different from other BPO programs available in the market, which focus only on voice and accent training. We understand that a BPO involves much more than just voice and accent. The roles and responsibilities in any role in the BPO sector involve providing prompt and quick resolutions to customer queries or needs. The skills required for this are:
  • Overview of BPO Industry
  • Personal Effectiveness
  • Office Applications – Basics of Word processing, Spreadsheets and Presentations
  • Typing Skills
 
Program Structure:
The 20-hour BPO Foundation Program is geared towards dealing with each of the above areasThe areas. The program starts with an overview of the BPO industry which answers all the questions that you might have. It teaches you the basics of office applications like word processing, spreadsheets, presentations as well as typing. The module focuses on personal effectiveness (including how to make a smooth transition from the campus to the corporate world).
 
Effective Communication – Foundation
 
Overview:
Effective Communication module provides basic communication capabilities that BPO representatives require to succeed in the job. This course has been structured and designed in consultation with leaders in the industry to identify the specific capabilities that matter, based on their real-world experience and requirements.
 
Program Structure:
Students who complete the BPO foundation module will start with the foundation level and then will move on to the Finance & Accounting advanced level. The program takes students through the training stage-by-stage and develops the conversational capabilities and Information gathering skills they require to perform well in Voice Process in a BPO.
 
Foundation Level
Stage 0: Conversation Fundamentals
Stage 1: Information gathering conversations (Surveys, Information Updating
 
Finance and Accounting
 
Overview:
One of the verticals which is destined to see high growth in the BPO industry is the F&A domain. As per NASSCOM Strategic Review 2008 F&A BPO grew steadily at 13.6% in 2007 and has seen the highest level of adoption of off-shoring. This segment accounts for approximately 40-45% of Indian BPO and over the next five years, worldwide demand for F&A services is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 16% and reach USD 24.6 billion by 2010.
 
Program Structure:
Students who meet the eligibility criteria will go through the BPO Foundation Program, Effective Communication Skills – Foundation Level before starting the Finance & Accounting- Advanced Level. This program covers the following domains –Procurement to Pay (P2P), Order to Cash (O2C), Reconciliations and awareness of laws and practices across the Globe. Some of the skills that can be acquired are handling Accounts Payable/Recoverable, Order Management, Bank Reconciliations and Invoicing. Also it will cover Business writing and Business communication skills
 
Most BPOs provide training in this domain as on the job training or buddy/shadow training and the training period varies within companies/processes or even background of candidates. This program enables the students to understand the terminologies, nuances and working of the F&A outsourced services and hence the time taken by them to become productive will be minimized and limited to understanding the process specific requirements and tools.
 
Instructional Methodology:
The training will follow an Instructor Led Delivery mode with conceptual delivery being strengthened with application based demos, ERP Simulations, exercises and practice sessions. The methodology will focus on retention of concepts through application
